bangkok: apac all hens hands marketing meeting
01 February 2008 @ 10:40 PM
almost a week's long meeting cum training in bkk and since my last bkk trip wasn't fruitful, elyn suggested we should fly there 2 days earlier to do some well-deserved shopping! wanted to stay in baiyoke boutique hotel but due to overwhelming response, we were 'upgraded' to thailand's tallest hotel - the baiyoke sky hotel - 88 storeys above skyline.

first day was alright, bought some shoes and a few tops in platinum plaza - almost like a wholesale centre. dinner was good as i brought the china team and angmohs to the thai restaurant at hyatt erawan! tom yum goong was fantastic plus the pineapple fried rice and green curry!

what else was best? we ended up watching striptease and pole dancing with real women naked! it was some eye-opener! you see all the angmohs and japanese men go goo-goo-gaa-gaa over the naked women dancing. and where's the thrill? the level one folks can look up and watch the girls dance on the 2nd level, wearing nothing beneath the skirts over the transparent ceiling. wowwww!

day 2 was better! had a good breakfast and off we go to the famous chatuchak weekend flea market! we're all set to go!

glad that i heed elyn's advice to wear shorts as we were already sweating like pigs! weather was so HOT and we were told by the local taxi driver that it was WINTER! holy shit! chatuchak has anything and everything you can get, from furnitures to clothes, accessories and even pets! and the best part is most stuff are so cheap, especially the food! 2 bottles of coke and 2 big bowls of chicken noodles only cost us 100 baht and that's equivalent to maybe SGD4!! check out our 'steamed' look during lunch!

and because things are so cheap, we bought so much that we each had to buy another bag and lug them back! i was also tasked to bring back some bone-shaped dog biscuits back so i grabbed 6 packs of them! good buy, best buy, must buy! but i was pretty embarrassed dragging the pasar-malam bag from bkk to sg airport..

after the bustle and hustle weekend, i wasn't really ready for the meeting. long looooooong day of meetings and trainings from 9-6 non-stop! but luckily we did have some post-meeting entertainments which was our group dinners and drinks. and because we were all placed on the executive floor, we got to enjoy free flow of drinks at lounge 6-8pm everyday. took a quick pic with phiona, pauline, kevin and connie at the executive lounge before we leave for dinner.

it was really fun to have the whole team taking train every night out for dinner. it was of course the toasting session at dinner made all of us so high but at least i managed to have my massage after the massive drinks at during dinner. pauline was really eager to teach the whole marketing team our signature superheros drinking game. superman, spiderman, batman, ultraman and wonderwoman! i was beside the 'ultraman' while me posing as 'spiderman'!

serene took me out for dinner the last night at this thai restaurant at intercon hotel, which she highly recommended the fried rice and thai iced-tea! i really have to give two thumbs up for the dinner! had a very nice and quiet dinner without rest of the team.

i joined rest of the team for party at conrad hotel after my dinner. it was fun to have some of the sg sales folks joining us as they were there for an asean sales meeting. so many wacky dance moves and drinking games filled the night. but of course, i wouldn't want to share the horrendous party pics to the world unless requested! heehee! but here are a few 'clean' ones to share!

all i can say is this bbk trip is very fruitful and enriching - in both work and personal aspects. sitting through the meetings seemed as though i was sitting in class listening to the marketing gurus talking bout their expertise in each area and of course, roaming around in another foreign land allow me to be more independent without anyone taking care of me.

life is great, isn't it?
